FRIDAY, JANUARY 30, 2026 Scammers are impersonating local and federal jury offices and law enforcement. They may use your personal details, real agency names, and fake badge numbers to pressure you into staying on the line and threaten arrest or fines. Courts never call to demand payment or personal information. Do not share any information—hang up immediately. Verify jury matters only by contacting your local or federal jury office using official phone numbers.
As an Article III judge, Judge Winmill handles felony criminal matters, death penalty cases, and Class A misdemeanors if the parties choose not to consent to a magistrate judge. Judge Nye and Judge Winmill are randomly assigned all felony criminal matters.
For civil cases, Judge Nye and Judge Winmill are randomly assigned an equal share of civil matters. Additionally, if a party requests reassignment of a civil matter to a district judge after having been assigned a magistrate judge, the matter will be randomly assigned to either Judge Nye or Judge Winmill.
Finally, in bankruptcy appellate matters, if a party objects to the matter being heard by the Ninth Circuit Bankruptcy Appellate Panel, Judge Nye and Judge Winmill are randomly assigned to hear appeals from the bankruptcy court.
Judge Winmill's Chambers is in Boise. However, Judge Winmill travels to the divisional offices on a regular basis. Two weeks of each month, Judge Winmill hears matters in Boise. The other two weeks are spent in Pocatello and Coeur d'Alene. Judge Winmill's regular travel schedule may be dictated, however, by trial settings, hearings, or other matters, and is subject to change.
To determine the law clerk assigned to your case:
Judge Winmill has four law clerks who assist with case management, motions, and trials.
