SAVE THE DATE!
The 2020 U.S. COURTS BENCH-BAR CONFERENCE is ready from the convenience of your office/home/trapeze or wherever you may be on Friday, October 23, 2020, Better than Netflix, Amazon Prime and anything on Roku, you’ll see great programs, receive CLE credit, and it is absolutely free! That’s right—this conference has no fee.
We’ll miss being together in person, but like all things COVID-19, right now that isn’t a good idea. So, we’re live streaming this year’s conference. The conference will open with the State of the Federal Judiciary reports, followed by a program on the Brave New World of the practice of law and the work of the Idaho federal courts in these unprecedented times. Add to your toolbox some new strategies and approaches to managing your cases and your office during the pandemic and gain a view into what the future looks like. See the online agenda for details about the program and the stellar faculty.
Then ask yourself: why do I negotiate the way I do – with opposing lawyers, during mediations, with my clients? What goes into how I make ethical decisions under pressure? Do I understand why and how I make negotiating decisions? Do I understand why and how other lawyers make negotiating decisions? Gain important insights from Professor Jennifer Robbennolt, a dean and professor of law at the University of Illinois, who specializes in the psychology of dispute resolution and ethical decision-making in lawyering. Face it – the more you understand such things, the better.
Next, you will learn more “things every lawyer needs to know about bankruptcy court,” in a program about the complications in a civil personal injury case when the plaintiff files a bankruptcy petition in the middle of the lawsuit. Hear from our bankruptcy judges, including new U.S. Bankruptcy Judge Noah G. Hillen, about how to turn that lemon into lemonade.
After that, make a break for it – to our practice specific breakout sessions. New decisions in substantive law and difficulties caused by the pandemic have significantly changed many areas of federal practice in 2020. Choose among breakout sessions bringing you up to date in Environmental Law, Employment Law, Criminal Law and Bankruptcy Law. Check the online agenda for details about the programs and their outstanding faculty.
The conference wraps up with the traditional Judges’ Panel conversation. Judges will discuss and respond to your on-line questions about justice in the age of a pandemic and those changes which may continue after the pandemic has run its course. Do such changes negatively or positively affect the search for justice? Join us to think more carefully about achieving socially distanced justice from behind a mask or behind a video screen wall.
The conference will be slimmed down this year (we all can only do so much Zoom). We’ll begin at 8:30 a.m. and wrap up at 2:00 p.m. We’ll miss having your good company in person. But we will be “live,” we will be topical, we will be relevant, and you will be glad that you hit the “join conference” link on October 23, 2020!
Still the best CLE value (FREE!) and most interesting conference in the West! DON’T MISS OUT!
