It is the mission of the Bureau of Prisons to protect society by confining offenders in the controlled environments of prisons and community-based facilities that are safe, humane, cost-efficient, appropriately secure, and that provide work and other self-improvement opportunities to assist offenders in becoming law-abiding citizens.  The Bureau of Prisons operates facilities throughout the United States.  Unfortunately, there are currently no facilities in the state of Idaho.  Offenders sentenced in the District of Idaho will be sent to a facility as designated by the Bureau of Prisons.  Every effort is made to accommodate the recommendations of the sentencing court and to place an inmate as close as possible to their home state.  However, placement of an inmate is at the sole discretion of the Bureau of Prisons, and is based upon numerous factors.  Information about a specific institutions and tools to assist with locating or contacting an inmate are available at the Bureau of Prisons' web site.
